Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the carcass yield, to determine the chemical composition of the filet and to evaluate the physical-mechanical resistance of the Nile tilapia leather produced in ponds and cages. The results obtained for body characteristics, yields, morphometric relations, filet chemical composition and physical-mechanical tests of the tilapia leather from both farming systems were submitted to variance analysis (ANOVA), and when statistical differences were observed, Tukey's test was applied at 5% significance level, using the Statistica 7.1 software. Significant differences were observed for the mean values of body characteristics between the two types of farming for total and standard length, total weight, fins and fillet weight. As for morphometric relationships, chemical composition of fillets and leather strength, no significant differences were observed. It is concluded that the production system influences some carcass characteristics, without influencing the body yield, morphometric relations, meat composition and physical-mechanical tests of the leather.  The resistance, traction and tearing tests of the tilapia leather indicate the possibility of its use in the textile industry.

Research, Society and Development2022-05-20info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2977810.33448/rsd-v11i7.29778Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 7; e17711729778Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 7; e17711729778Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 7; e177117297782525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/29778/25751Copyright (c) 2022 Vagner Geronimo do Nascimento Santos; Humberto Rodrigues Macedo; Iury Walysson de Amorim Melo; Joana D’arc Maurício Rocha; Yago Alves Esteves; Aldi Feidenhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantos, Vagner Geronimo do Nascimento Macedo, Humberto Rodrigues Melo, Iury Walysson de Amorim Rocha, Joana D’arc Maurício Esteves, Yago Alves Feiden, Aldi2022-06-06T15:12:05Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/29778Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:46:45.881615Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
