Analysis of the high Hardiness of nursing professionals at a university hospital

Resumo: Introduction: hardiness can be defined as a strategy for coping with occupational stress and supporting the prevention of Burnout Syndrome. Objective: to analyze the high hardiness scores of nursing professionals at a university hospital. Methodology: observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, whose sample consisted of 171 nursing professionals in a hospital context, from April to October 2016. For data collection we used the Likert hardiness scale, composed of 30 items, distributed among three dimensions: challenge, commitment and control, ranging from 0 to 90 points. Result: of the 171 participants, there was a predominance of females 136 (79.5%) and an average age of 45 years. In the analysis of the general average of the scores, nurses had a higher average in the commitment (22.4), while in the control, nurses and nursing technicians obtained the same score (21.5). Finally, in the challenge, the nurse scored lower than the other categories (14.3). Conclusion: between the categories of the nursing team, there was a difference in the score of the high scores in the three dimensions of the Hardiness Scale.

Objetivo: analizar los altos puntajes de resistencia de los profesionales de enfermería en un hospital universitario. Metodología: estudio observacional, transversal y descriptivo, con abordaje cuantitativo, cuya muestra estuvo conformada por 171 profesionales de enfermería en un contexto hospitalario, de abril a octubre de 2016. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó la escala de resistencia Likert, compuesta por 30 ítems, distribuidos en tres dimensiones: desafío, compromiso y control, que van de 0 a 90 puntos. Resultado: de los 171 participantes, hubo un predominio de mujeres 136 (79,5%) y una edad promedio de 45 años. En el análisis del promedio general de las puntuaciones, las enfermeras tuvieron una media superior en el compromiso (22,4), mientras que en el control, enfermeras y técnicos de enfermería obtuvieron la misma puntuación (21,5). Finalmente, en el desafío, la enfermera obtuvo una puntuación más baja que las otras categorías (14,3). Conclusión: entre las categorías del equipo de enfermería, hubo diferencia en la puntuación de los puntajes altos en las tres dimensiones de la Escala de Resistencia.Introdução: o hardiness pode ser definido como uma estratégia de enfrentamento ao estresse ocupacional e apoio à prevenção da Síndrome de Burnout. Objetivo: analisar os escores altos de hardiness dos profissionais de enfermagem de um hospital universitário. Metodologia: estudo observacional, transversal e descritivo, de abordagem quantitativa, cuja amostra foram 171 profissionais de enfermagem em contexto hospitalar, no período de abril a outubro de 2016. Para coleta de dados utilizou-se a Escala hardiness, tipo Likert, composta por 30 itens, distribuídos entre três dimensões: desafio, compromisso e controle, variando de 0 a 90 pontos. Resultado: dos 171 participantes, houve predominância do sexo feminino 136 (79,5%) e média de idade de 45 anos. Na análise da média geral dos escores,  os enfermeiros tiveram maior média no compromisso (22,4), enquanto no controle, os enfermeiros e os  técnicos de Enfermagem obtiveram a mesma pontuação (21,5). E por fim, no desafio, o enfermeiro pontuou mais baixo que as demais categorias (14,3).
