Food and nutritional security in times of COVID-19: a literature review

Resumo: This work analyzed the situation of Food and Nutrition Insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic, comparing Brazil with other countries that have adopted similar measures to help the most vulnerable populations. It also analyzed the consumption of ultra-processed foods and also the nutritional implications that a poor diet can have on the health of those who consume them. Also, analyzed the impact of lack of food diversity in obtaining micronutrients. It was a literature review whose research base were SCIELO, PUBMED and VHL, in addition to legislation and studies relevant to the subject. The articles were analyzed based on the following criteria: empirical and observational studies, in addition to systematic reviews. Although several countries, including Brazil, have offered help to the vulnerable population, such measures were not enough to contain the increase in families living in a situation of food insecurity, which further aggravated the situation of countries whose level of food insecurity was already high.

También analizó el consumo de alimentos ultraprocesados y también las implicaciones nutricionales que una mala alimentación puede tener sobre la salud de quienes los consumen. Asimismo, analizó el impacto de la falta de diversidad alimentaria en la obtención de micronutrientes. Fue una revisión bibliográfica cuya base de investigación fueron SCIELO, PUBMED y la BVS, además de legislación y estudios pertinentes al tema. Los artículos fueron analizados con base en los siguientes criterios: estudios empíricos y observacionales, además de revisiones sistemáticas. Si bien varios países, incluido Brasil, han ofrecido ayuda a la población vulnerable, tales medidas no fueron suficientes para contener el aumento de familias que vivían en situación de inseguridad alimentaria, lo que agravó aún más la situación de países cuyo nivel de inseguridad alimentaria ya era alto.Este trabalho analisou a situação da Insegurança Alimentar e Nutricional durante a pandemia de COVID-19, comparando o Brasil com outros países que adotaram medidas semelhantes de ajuda às populações mais vulneráveis. Analisou ainda o consumo de alimentos ultraprocessados e também as implicações nutricionais que uma má alimentação pode causar à saúde de quem os consome. Ainda, analisou o impacto da falta de diversidade de alimentos na obtenção dos micronutrientes. Tratou-se de uma revisão bibliográfica cuja base de pesquisa foram SCIELO, PUBMED e BVS, além de legislações e estudos pertinentes ao assunto. Os artigos foram analisados a partir dos seguintes critérios: estudos empíricos e observacionais, além de revisões sistemáticas.
