Resumo: This research aims to examine the issue of chemical dependence and the occurrences of epigenetic changes, highlighting its relevance in the clinical care of illegal drug users. For that, a systematic literature review was carried out, according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) model. An electronic search for articles was performed in the databases: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL); EBSCOhost, EMBASE; Latindex; Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS); Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online/PubMed (MEDLINE); Science Direct, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), SCOPUS, ISI Web of Science, with the descriptors "epigenetics AND illicit drugs AND addiction OR dependence AND mental disorders AND genetic predisposition OR genetic susceptibility”, chosen in consultation with DeCS and Medical Subject Heading (MeSH). A search strategy resulted in 532 studies. Following the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 22 articles published from 2008 to 2021 in national and international literature were analyzed. This review contributes to direct future research. A greater understanding of the complexities of the epigenome and the unravelling of the effects and contributions of disease states versus drugs of abuse is crucial to the development of new clinical therapies. Epigenetic therapy holds great promise for treating complex diseases and personalized interventions, including psychiatric illnesses.

Se realizó una búsqueda electrónica de artículos en las siguientes bases de datos: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL); EBSCOhost, EMBASE; Latindex; Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS); Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online/PubMed (MEDLINE); Science Direct, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), SCOPUS, ISI Web of Science, con los descriptores"epigenetics AND illicit drugs AND addiction OR dependence AND mental disorders AND genetic predisposition OR genetic susceptibility”, elegidos después de consultar el DeCS y Medical Subject Heading (MeSH). Foi realizada busca eletrônica de artigos nas bases de dados: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL); EBSCOhost, EMBASE; Latindex; Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS); Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online/PubMed (MEDLINE); Science Direct, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), SCOPUS, ISI Web of Science, com os descritores "epigenetics AND illicit drugs AND addiction OR dependence AND mental disorders AND genetic predisposition OR genetic susceptibility”, escolhidos mediante consulta ao DeCS e Medical Subject Heading (MeSH). Research, Society and Development2022-06-03info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3021610.33448/rsd-v11i7.30216Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 7; e51911730216Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 7; e51911730216Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 7; e519117302162525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/30216/26119Copyright (c) 2022 Aldo Pacheco Ferreira; Cíntia da Silva Telles Nichele ; Jéssica Barreto dos Santos; Maria José Cruz-Hernándezhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessFerreira, Aldo Pacheco Nichele , Cíntia da Silva TellesSantos, Jéssica Barreto dos Cruz-Hernández, Maria José 2022-06-06T15:12:05Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/30216Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:47:02.790330Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
