The main mining activity that District Miner's manual and craft work of extracting the rock slabs for production -cut stones of different types. In 2011 were registered in Rio Grande do Sul by the National Department of Mineral Production (ANP ), 640 mining companies , all branches, of which 270 (42 %) are classified by annual turnover in stratum "C" DNPM where 100% of mining companies that produce stone-cut basalt. The objective of the study is to characterize economic aspects of mining segment that allows stratify it by its size, aiming to support the planning of actions to achieve greater knowledge and control of activity, resulting in the improvement of administrative companies and greater return to the municipality of compensation financial. The proposal for an economic classification of companies in this District Mining was done from the database of the Annual Report (RAL) DNPM, researching information for 2010 and 2011. The study is a statistical study on data extraction and marketing of stone -cut basalt in Mining District of New Silver (RS). The statistical methodology used was simple random sampling, whose raw data were collected from a sample of 42 miners, provided by DNPM/RS from its database of RAL, with production information, product value, revenue and number of employees. The analysis of the survey showed a large dispersion about the median annual earnings of mining stratum "C", making it difficult to establish a profile of the segment. The paper proposes classifying the miners PNDM into four subcategories: C1, C2, C3 and C4, with less variability in each class. From an observation of data collected from the extraction of the stone -cut in Mining District of New Silver (RS), based on data from the Annual Report (RAL) DNPM for the periods 2010 and 2011, showed a large dispersion in average annual revenues, making the control and management of mining.
