Summary: We don't need to look overseas to realize that within our own history, groups have been subjugated, repressed and persecuted. For these reasons, in this work, we approach the experiences lived in the feast of a certain religious terreiro of African origins in commemoration of the spiritual entity and owner of the celebration, Maria Padilha. Therefore, the chosen object is a space of ancestral resistance that is so much the target of prejudice, stigma and stereotypes by non-practicing Brazilian societies. Based on bibliographical bases concerning orality and African oral tradition, from the perspective and panorama of followers and sympathizers of the investigated terreiro, we share with readers the analyzes in order to understand, value and respect the narratives carried out by members of this religion.
