SERFDOM AND/OR RESISTANCE? : SOCIETY, HAIR, SUBJECTIVITY AND HAIR TRANSITION PROCESS

Resumo: This work reflects on the Brazilian historical and sociocultural context, taking a critical look at thereason that leads women with not straight hair to depreciate and submit their hair to chemicalstraightening processes. The objective of the study was to understand how the hair transitioncontributed to the power of these women to act towards freedom of choice about the shape of their own hair. This was an exploratory, qualitative and documentary research and for data collection we used videos published on the Youtube platform by two women who underwent straightening and hair transition. Discourse analysis was performed based on cultural-historical psychology. The analyzes showed that, although there is an aesthetic supremacy, it is possible to perceive the recognition of theplace they occupy in a racialized or ethnic group, when they make a capillary transition.

El objetivo del estudio fue comprender cómo la transición del cabello contribuyó al poder de estas mujeres para actuar hacia la libertad de elección sobre la forma de su propio cabello.Esta fue una investigación exploratoria, cualitativa y documental y para la recolección de datos seutilizaron videos publicados en la plataforma de Youtube por dos mujeres que se sometieron a alisado y transición capilar. Se realizó un análisis del discurso basado en la psicología histórico-cultural. Los análisis mostraron que, si bien existe una supremacía estética, es posible percibir el reconocimiento del lugar que ocupan en un grupo racializado o étnico, cuando realizan una transición capilar.Este trabalho reflete sobre o contexto histórico e sociocultural brasileiro, lançando um olhar crítico sobre a razão que leva mulheres de cabelos não lisos a depreciarem e submeter seus fios a processos químicos de alisamento. O objetivo do estudo foi compreender como a transição capilar contribuiu para a potência de agir dessas mulheres em direção à liberdade de escolha sobre a forma dos próprios cabelos. Esta foi uma pesquisa exploratória, qualitativa e documental e para a coleta de dados recorreu-se a vídeos publicados na plataforma Youtube por duas mulheres que passaram por alisamentos e transição capilar. Foi realizada uma análise de discurso a partir da psicologia histórico-cultural.
