Animal transfusion therapy is an expanding topic in Brazil at this moment, despite the little importance given to it in the Veterinary Medicine curriculum. The project “Plano de divulgação e recrutamento de doadores para o Banco de Sangue Canino do Hospital Veterinário - FMVZ - Unesp – Botucatu” aims to strengthen canine hemotherapy on the aspects of education, research and extension in an integrated way in Veterinary Medicine. The activities of this Project has been allowed the reinforcement of technical and social skills of ungraduated students, the development of graduation and post-graduation researches, the release of scientific and informative material, a great media visibility of Unesp and above all, the availability, although below the desired number, of blood bags for emergency clinical cases when attending the community. The animal blood bank also prepares blood components allowing a greater number of patients to benefit from one donation and a more specific therapeutic prescription. The fellowship has been enabled the improvement of the student’s technical knowledge and allowed her to transmit it to the public, ensuring a high quality material obtained from healthy and properly screened donators.
