Ameloblastomas are odontogenic tumors constituted by proliferation of ameloblastic epithelium in a fibrous stroma. They originate from the remains of the dental sheet or epithelium of odontogenic cyst. The cystic intra-bony types or solids have been trated in several ways, varying of simple enucleation and curettage to recession in block even hemi-mandibulectomy. The best treatment form comes being reason controversies for several years. The aim of this study was investigate to effectiveness of the conservative surgery in ameloblastomas treatment and the effects of that treatment type, in the attempt of contributing to the study of the lesion with relationship to the therapeutics, emphasizing that its indication with base in the precocious diagnosis and conservative surgery would be important in decrease of the discomfort. Materials and Methods: They were studied retrospectivally 5 patients carriers of jaw ameloblastoma coming from the School of Dentistry of Araçatuba- UNESP, being 4 cystic ameloblastomas and 1 solid multicystic that had curettage as surgical treatment. The clinical and radiographic data were appraised with followup times until four years. Results: All cases trated with curettage was effective, being noticed in the operated areas the formation of bone normal radiographically normal and without recurrence indications or new primary tumors. Conclusion: Our results indicate that the surgical curettage is effective in the treatment of unicystic and policystic ameloblastomas, providing elimination of the tumor and increase of the bony support, reducing the need of the accomplishment of mutilating surgeries, preventing its complications
