Análise de recidiva em pacientes com carcinoma espinocelular de boca e orofaringe

Purpose: To understand the evolution of patients treated for primary squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth and oropharynx according to the protocol of the Center forOral Oncology (COB) College of Dentistry of Araçatuba Campus, Univ. Estadual Paulista - UNESP. Method and sample: A total of 247 charts of patients treated at theCOB in the period 1991 to 2005 with squamous cell carcinoma in the mouth and oropharynx, considering variables such as sex, location, ethnicity, alcoholism, smoking, staging, treatment, surgical margins, presence of relapse. The sample of 218 men and 29 women, aged between 28 and 94 years (average of 57.74 and a median of 57). The anatomical location of primary tumor corresponded to 100(40.5%) cases in the oropharynx and 147 (59.51%) in the mouth. 70 patients (28.34%) had tumor recurrence. Were used for calculation of survival the KaplanMeyer and the association of variables, the Fisher exact test or chi-square (X2). Results: No statistically significant variable. Conclusion: The treatment protocolperformed by the staff of the Center for Oral Oncology is in the results obtained in major cancer centers
