A rural diagnosis aims to develop research processes from the conditions and possibilities of the producers. This paper aims to conduct a socioeconomic diagnosis with producers of Ilha Solteira/SP, reinforcing the inclusion of productive activities in cost management, so that the participant can better incorporate the decision making process. For the diagnosis survey, was conducted a semi-structured questionnaire with social, economic and environmental nature questions. The results showed that 92% of respondents say that the management of the property's cost is very important, but the majority does not run due to lack of guidance. Other relevant items were found, including low income, which is supplemented by other sources external to property; difficulty with technical assistance, which limits production in quantity and quality; deficit essential services such as garbage collection, which affect the quality of life and production. It concludes that the importance of a participatory diagnosis itself reflects the need to take practical information and low investment in the practice of extension with the university, in order to improve the way in which information is transmitted and the effectiveness of this project.
