Resumo: The objective of this study is to conduct a literature review on the interference of alcohol in the dynamics of alveolar bone. In this work, studies were gathered in both alveolar bone as in long bones. Alcohol was administered in isolation in some studies or in association with other conditions; for example; to ovariectomy, nicotine and tobacco. We also discuss the methodologies used to alcoholism induction. Based on the related studies, it can be concluded that the consumption of alcohol brought injury to the bone, but it was not possible to conclude whether alcohol impairs bone only when periodontal disease is already installed, or if alcohol damages the bone by itself, regardless of the presence of periodontal disease. It was also clear that the effects of alcohol on the bone tissue depend on the intake dose and duration of drug use

Neste trabalho foram reunidos estudos tanto em osso alveolar quanto em ossos longos. O álcool foi administrado de forma isolada em alguns estudos ou em associação a outras condições, como, por exemplo, à ovariectomia, nicotina e tabaco. Também foram discutidas as metodologias utilizadas para indução do alcoolismo. Diante dos estudos relacionados, pode-se concluir que o consumo de álcool trouxe prejuízo para o tecido ósseo, porém, não foi possível concluir se o álcool prejudica o osso somente quando a doença periodontal já está instalada, ou se ele danifica o tecido ósseo por si só, independente da presença de doença periodontal.
