Resumo: | The aim of this study was to verify the difference of the permanence time of elderly inserted in a Physical Activity Program for Third Age (PROFIT), with the Body Mass Index (IMC), Body Adiposity Index (IAC), and Body Image Profile; and relate IMC and IAC with body image. The sample consisted of 50 older women participants of the PROFIT program, with a mean age of 67.60 + 5.74. It was possible to realize a “regular” and meaningful relationship to the IMC and IAC with a body image. The index of IMC, IAC and body image profile are higher, in consequence of the permanence time in the project, which those who are there longer than others, are classified as overweight and obese. However, the time of physical activity practice is not the only variable that influences these indexes. |

A amostra foi composta por 50 idosas com idade média de (67,60 + 5,74) participantes do PROFIT. Foi possível perceber uma relação “regular” e significativa para o IMC e IAC com a Imagem Corporal. O tempo de permanência no projeto é maior para as idosas com sobrepeso e obesidade, e, conseqüentemente, apresentam IMC, IAC e Perfil de Imagem Corporal mais elevado.
