Satisfação e qualidade de vida em pacientes desdentados após reembasamento com material resiliente

Soft liner materials had been widely used in complete denture wearers to improve denture base adaptation to the alveolar bone or to soften painful sensation in individuals with advanced bone resorption or scarce soft tissue. Some silicone based liners are classified as permanent or long lasting because maintain their physical properties for longer periods. Those present two polymerization techniques, a chairside or direct one and an indirect or laboratory polymerization. The main advantage to the laboratorial procedure is the processing free of saliva and the elevated temperature and controlled pressure, which could lead to fewer relining procedures. The disadvantage to this technique is the elevated cost, increase in clinical steps and time the patients would remain without their prostheses for laboratorial processing. There are no studies that evaluate the patients' perspective on the laboratorial polymerization technique. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to evaluate patients' satisfaction and quality of life (QoL) concerning both relining techniques with a long-lasting material (Ufi Gel SC, VOCO, Germany). The patients (20) were selected according to previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria, and were randomly allocated to either direct or indirect group (n=10). Two questionnaires were applied, the OHIP Edent and satisfaction one. The questionnaires were applied four (4) times during the relining and follow up, at baseline, 30 days of follow up, 60 days of follow up and 90 days of follow up. The analysis of Variance ANOVA demonstrated a significant difference for different periods (p ≤ 0,05), but not for different techniques. The reline improved patients' satisfaction and QoL independently of the polymerization applied, 90 days may have been a brief period to evaluate the differences between these techniques.
