The management of urban solid waste is one of the biggest challenges of the contemporary era, since generation can have impacts on the health of the population. The final destination of this waste consists, in most Brazilian municipalities, of sanitary or controlled landfills, managed by the government. The present work evaluated the temporal and spatial evolution of the Waste Quality Index (IQRs) of the municipalities that make up the 22nd Water Resources Management Unit of the state of São Paulo. Temporal assessment was conducted from 2010 to 2017 with the objective of identifying the influence of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) on the indices. Subsequently, correlations began to verify the impacts of economic, social, geographic and public health indicators on IQRs. The first process performed was the analysis of IQRs disparity through choroplectic maps, followed by evolutionary analysis using graphs. To perform the correlations of IQRs with other indicators, nonparametric Spearman correlations were used. Based on the data, the evolution, public health implications, social, geographic, economic and waste management aspects were discussed. It is concluded that the IQRs were strongly influenced by the new regulation brought by PNRS; social, economic and geographic indicators have the same evolutionary trend and the existence of the difficulty of large waste generators in promoting the management of landfills
