Summary: The objective of this study was to identify and compare social representations of violence and abuse among elderly community health agents and health professionals working in the Family Health Program. The sample was non-probabilistic and intentional, consisting of 50 health agents and 50 health professionals (29 nurses and 11 doctors and 10 dentists) of both sexes (59% female). It was applied a socio-demographic questionnaire and the Technique of Free Association of Words, from the stimulus-inductor “violence” and “abuse”. Data collected were analyzed using the technique of natural semantic networks. It was felt that violence and abuse to the elderly has been recorded mainly in expressions such as contempt, aggression, suffering and trauma, bringing consequences professional, family and organizational victims. The professionals evoked words related to traumas, while the health agents linked to the abandonment

Se aplicó un cuestionario demográfico y el test de asociación libre de palabras, basado en los estímulos que inducen a la “violencia” y “maltrato”. Los datos recogidos se analizaron mediante la técnica de redes semánticas naturales. Se consideró que la violencia y el maltrato de ancianos fueron sobre todo en expresiones como desprecio, agresión, sufrimiento, trayendo consigo consecuencias psicosociales, familiares y orgánicas. Los profesionales evocaron palabras relacionadas con trauma, mientras que los agentes comunitarios evocaron palabras vinculadas al abandono.O estudo objetivou identificar e comparar as Representações Sociais da violência e maus tratos na velhice entre Agentes Comunitários de Saúde e Profissionais de Saúde atuantes no Programa Saúde da Família. A amostra foi não-probabilística e intencional, constituída por 50 Agentes Comunitários e 50 Profissionais (29 enfermeiros, 11 médicos e 10 odontólogos) de ambos os sexos (59% do sexo feminino). Aplicaram-se um questionário sóciodemográfico e o Teste de Associação Livre de Palavras com base nos estímulos-indutores “violência” e “maus tratos”. Os dados coletados foram analisados através da técnica de redes semânticas naturais. Percebeu-se que a violência e maus tratos à pessoa idosa foram objetivados majoritariamente em expressões como desprezo, agressão, sofrimento e trauma trazendo conseqüências psicossociais, profissionais, familiares e orgânicas às vítimas.
