Summary: | In this article education is defined as a way to promote the development of man as an individual and as part of a complex environment, including the biological, psychological, social, economical and physical aspects that together make up the thread of existence. Scientific information and techniques alone do not change man's life styles. Education as a total task is only accomplished when people acquire new ways of relating to each other, and there is an area for free decisions and choices within a proper frame of valid information, adequate cognitive skills and valid social support. Partial changes in specific aspects of behaviour, without a commitment to a new way of being and a new project of life are not enduring. |

Es definida la educación como una forma de promover el desarrollo del hombre como un individuo y como parte de un ambiente complejo, incluyendo los aspectos biológicos, psicológicos, sociales, económicos y físicos que componen el hilo de la existencia. La información científica y las técnicas por si solas no pueden cambiar los estilos de vida del hombre. La educación, como una tarea total, depende de la aquisición por las personas de nuevas maneras de relacionarse, de circunstancias que permitan decisiones libres y selección de alternativas en un contexto adecuado de información, habilidades cognitivas y suporte social. Cambios parciales de comportamientos, sin la adesión a una nueva forma de ser y a un nuevo proyecto de vida non son duraderos. Universidade de São Paulo.
