Resumo: This study aimed to examine how male executives of the financial sector conceive friendship in the labor environment and perceive the social support they receive from friends. Ten executives of the financial sector responsible for the strategic area were interviewed seeking information about the influence of friendship at work in the construction of instrumental, emotional and informational support of these executives. The type of research is qualitative and the method used was the case study using the narrative interview technique. Therefore were conducted structured interviews with the executives. The gathered data was analyzed qualitatively. Despite the impersonal and abstract nature attributed to people in the labor environment by some contemporary theoreticians and by organizations, that consider the organizational environment as a neutral place and free from manifestations of a social and affective order, all participants acknowledged the presence of friendship relations in the labor environment. Although, the concept of friendship varies depending on the researched person, but, independent of the concept adopted, all interviewees said that the friendships represents an important source of social support, in its instrumental, emotional and informational forms.

Foram entrevistados dez executivos do setor financeiro, responsáveis por área estratégica, visando obter informações sobre a influência das relações de amizade no local de trabalho para a construção de apoio instrumental, informacional e emocional desses entrevistados. O tipo de pesquisa é qualitativo e o método utilizado foi o estudo de caso em que se usou a técnica de entrevista narrativa. Para tanto, realizaram-se entrevistas semi-estruturadas com os executivos. Apesar do caráter abstrato e despersonalizado atribuído às pessoas no trabalho por alguns teóricos e por organizações contemporâneas, que consideram o ambiente organizacional como um local neutro e isento de manifestações de ordens social e afetiva, todos os participantes reconheceram a presença de relações de amizade no ambiente de trabalho. Embora o conceito de amizade tenha diferido entre os pesquisados, todos afirmaram, independentemente do conceito adotado, que as amizades representam importante fonte de apoio social, em suas formas instrumental, emocional e informacional.El objetivo de este estudio es analizar cómo ejecutivos del sexo masculino del sector financiero conceptúan la amistad en el entorno de trabajo y cómo perciben el apoyo social ofrecido por amigos. Se entrevistaron a diez ejecutivos del sector financiero, responsables del área estratégica, con vistas a obtener información sobre la influencia de las relaciones de amistad en el trabajo en la construcción de apoyo instrumental, informacional y emocional. El tipo de investigación es cualitativo y el método utilizado fue el estudio de casos, con el uso de la técnica de entrevista narrativa. Para ello, se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con los ejecutivos. A pesar del carácter abstracto y despersonalizado atribuido a las personas en el trabajo por algunos teóricos y por organizaciones contemporáneas, que consideran el ambiente organizacional como un lugar neutral y libre de manifestaciones de carácter social y afectivo, todos los participantes reconocieron la presencia de relaciones de amistad en el ambiente de trabajo. Aunque el concepto de amistad sea diferente entre los entrevistados, todos afirmaron, independientemente del concepto adoptado, que las amistades representan una importante fuente de apoyo social, en sus formas instrumental, emocional y informacional.Universidade de São Paulo.
