Considering the unsatisfactory conditions of basic sanitation in the country, especially inrural areas, the lack of public policies directed to this issue and the social andenvironmental harms associated with that, it is remarkably necessary to seek for a biggerinvolvement of the society on this issue and the development of new technologies thatcope with this deficiency. This essay aims to document the stages involved in theimplementation of one of these sanitation technologies in a rural settlement in the city ofSão Carlos (SP), including the elaboration and enforcement of a social and environmentaldiagnosis for the choice of a family and the respective social technology, theimplementation of the technology and its results. With that, it was expected animprovement on the health of settlers, as well as in the local environmental quality and,mainly, to generate a debate that gives more attention to the subject by approximatingsociety and university and, consequently, widening the research in the field of a ruralsanitation.
