Resumo: OBJECTIVE: Comparing the life´s quality of day care centers before and after Shantala massage in institutionalized babies.METHODS: Cross-sectional, exploratory study with quantitative approach. Nineteen caregivers of the babies that received the Shantala massage. Two instruments were used for data collection. A semistructured questionnaire to characterize the sample regarding sociodemographic data, conditions and life and work habits. To assess the life´s quality, the WHOQOL-Bref instrument was used before and in the end of the total sessions with Shantala intervention in infants. The data collected were tabulated in an electronic spreadsheet through the Excel® program and analyzed in the statistical program SPSS version 18.0, the variables being compared with the statistical tests of Pearson and t-Student correlation.RESULTS: The mean age of the sample was 38,21±10,46 years old. The sociodemographic variables indicated that the majority of the monitors (57,9%, n=11) are married and the schooling is the third full grade (47,4%, n=9). In the evaluation of the specific domains, it was found that before the application of Shantala massage in babies, the monitors had the highest scores in the social relations domain (76,84). After the application of the massage, the highest score in the psychological domain was noted (81,01). The scores showed an improvement in quality (76,04) after the application of the massage.CONCLUSIONS: The evidence indicated an improvement in the life´s quality of the monitors, thus, the indirect effects of the Shantala massage can contribute to the promotion of the life´s quality of the same.
