Resumo: The article addresses the report of literacy experience in a non-formal learning space, in this case, the Messianic Church, based on Paulo Freire's theory. Having as problematic: How literacy can be meaningful in a non-formal teaching space? The study has as general objective: To understand the importance of literacy in the non-formal teaching space. And the specific objectives: Understand the non-formal teaching space as multi-ferrential; to carry out literacy in the Messianic Church; provide a meaningful learning for the subjects from literacy; understand literacy through Paulo Freire's theory. The methodology used was the bibliographic, oral and qualitative research with the use of a conversation circle about the narratives and experiences of these subjects, so that through them we could carry out literacy. Thus, we note the importance of literacy in non-formal learning spaces, guaranteeing the exercise of citizenship for the subjects.
