RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a representação da sertaneja Fátima, personagem do romance Outros Cantos (2016), de Maria Valéria Rezende, que assume especial relevância na trajetória da narradora-protagonista, Maria. O trabalho toma como base o conceito não essencialista de gênero, enquanto construção social (LAURETIS, 1994), e conceitos operatórios da crítica feminista da literatura. As considerações sobre a construção da personagem Fátima e do ambiente em que ela vive – o sertão fictício de Olho d’Água à época da ditadura militar – levam em conta, entre outros, o pensamento de Pierre Bourdieu (2012) sobre a dominação masculina. Fátima pode ser enquadrada a meio caminho entre mulher-objeto e mulher-sujeito, oscilando entre as duas posições – mesmo que não demonstre uma intenção deliberada de transgredir. Buscando um paralelo com o estudo de Lúcia Osana Zolin (2009a), pode-se dizer que Fátima é a mulher “possível” do sertão de Outros Cantos. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Representação feminina. Outros Cantos. Gênero.   ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to analyze the representation of the backlander Fátima, character of the novel Outros Cantos (2016), by Maria Valéria Rezende, who assumes special relevance in the narrator-protagonist's trajectory, Maria. The paper is based on the non-essentialist concept of gender as a social construction (LAURETIS, 1994), and other operative concepts of feminist literary criticism. The considerations about the construction of the character Fátima and the environment where she lives – the fictional backlands of Olho d’Água at the time of the military dictatorship – take into account, among others, the presupposition of Pierre Bourdieu (2012) about male domination. Fátima can be placed halfway between the object-woman and the subject-woman, oscillating between the two positions – even if she does not demonstrate a deliberate intention to transgress. As an attempt to search for a parallel with the study of Lúcia Osana Zolin (2009a), it can be said that Fátima is the possible woman from the backlands of Outros Cantos.
