RESUMO: A literatura produzida na Irlanda foi e continua sendo até os dias de hoje um grande marco na história do país. A importância das obras literárias irlandesas e sua tradição ultrapassam o reconhecimento nacional, estendendo-se por todo continente europeu e firmando-se como parte fundamental de toda literatura produzida na Europa. A contribuição exercida pela literatura irlandesa no cenário mundial é, desproporcionalmente, maior que o espaço geográfico ocupado pelo próprio país, uma pequena ilha da Europa. Sua diversidade e importância têm, ao longo dos tempos, interessado estudiosos de todas as partes do mundo. Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar um breve panorama da literatura irlandesa em algumas de suas fases de acordo com seus respectivos períodos históricos e proporcionar o acesso à história dessa literatura no idioma português, visto que a maior parte das fontes de informação para esse objeto de estudo encontram-se escritas inglês. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Irlanda. Literatura irlandesa. Historiografia literária.        ABSTRACT: The literature produced in Ireland was and remains, nowadays, a great trait in the country's history. The importance of Irish literature and its tradition is beyond the national recognition extending across the European continent, establishing itself as a fundamental part of all literature produced in Europe. The contribution exerted by Irish literature in the worldwide scenery is disproportionately larger than the geographical area occupied by the country itself, a small island located in northeastern Europe. Throughout the ages, the diversity and importance of Irish literature have interested scholars from all over the world. This article aims to present a brief overview about Irish literature in some of its phases according to their respective historical periods and provide access to the history of this literature in Portuguese, since most of the information sources for this object of study are mostly written in English.
