Summary: Objective: to report an action developed by a multidisciplinary health team from a Federal Institute regarding the continuing education offered to outsourced workers who work in cleaning and disinfecting surfaces in the institution's health sector. Methodology: Descriptive, qualitative, experience report type. For the training planning, the Arco de Maguerez strategy was used. The implementation of the action was permeated by an expository class, a conversation circle and a practical class. Results: 14 outsourced employees participated, the training was configured as an important biosafety tool, promoting autonomy in professional performance and reorienting the work process. Conclusion: Health residues have great potential for the proliferation of diseases when improperly managed, which may pose risks to workers and collaborators who work in health services. Promoting continuing education on health waste management supports the reduction of possible environmental and social impacts resulting from its incorrect handling.
