This thesis aims to build the concept of urbanity through the relationship between verticalization, density and perception aspects with architectural objects and morphological elements that build up the urban space. Furthering the encyclopedic definition of “cordiality” and “civility,” this concept is understand as a set of qualities between space and object that are materialize in the city (AGUIAR, 2012). They were chosen 04 (four) buildings to examine the relationship between the built object and the urban landscape, in order to identify the characteristics that contribute to the shaping of urbanity. The buildings in question are divided into two categories. The first of them consists of Copan Building (1952), Galeria Metrópole (1956) and Italia Building (1959), representing the modern period in which the change in legislation, provide them to reach high densities, strong verticalization and greater reproducibility of urban land. The second category analyzes the Praça das Artes complex (2012), representative of contemporaneity and with major legislative challenges. The active elements present in these buildings as permeabilities, smaller barriers between public and private spaces, multifunctional uses, among others, contributed to the quality of the resulting urban space. Thus, these elements presented scaling and persistence relationships and had urbanity propulsion power (FRANCO, 2005). It is seek to explore the concept of urbanity, in order to identify that in the urban landscape what prevails is not only the quantitative approach (density, vertical, coefficients), but the relationship of the elements to conform spaces with quality, functionality, aesthetics and urbanity. It is from the integration that the city is drawn, approaches the human scale and ensures greater urbanity, dynamism and vitality.
