Resumo: Educational institutions have a fundamental role in the formation of individuals, directly and indirectly influencing social, economic and environmental matters. Among the problems of environmental comfort most found in teaching environments, the excessive levels of noise stand out, which affect the teaching-learning process. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the noise level parameters of six computer laboratories with Video Display Terminals (VDTs) of Technology Centers of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in areas of the Brazilian regions, evaluating the behavior and compliance of their equivalent noise level (LAeq) and developing a mathematical model that compares noise levels between institutions. The compliance with noise levels was assessed according to NBR 10152/1987, ANSI S12.60-2002 and guidelines of the World Health Organization. The study is an experimental research whose technical measurements were performed according to the NBR 10151/2000. The descriptive analysis showed that the six teaching environments evaluated presented LAeq higher than the values established in the applicable norms. A generalized linear model was created to compare the noise levels between the institutions' laboratories, which corroborated the results obtained in the descriptive analysis. The architectural aspects of the laboratories were evaluated and it was concluded that the high noise levels may be related to the low coefficients of absorption of the materials present in those rooms. The originality is the analysis of the differences of noise levels between the laboratories from a mathematical modeling, but taking into account the architectural aspects.
