Resumo: This article aims to present two distinct matrices of conceptual orientations - the artistic and the cultural - that subsidize various approaches on the film in the Communication Field. Initially will be evidenced the developments that each one raises regarding the understanding of the communication process. At last, these matrices will be assessed for the capacity to analyze the relation between communication and politicization.

Inicialmente se destacarán los avances cada matriz plantea con respecto a la comprensión del proceso de la comunicación. Por último, las matrices artísticas y culturales serán evaluadas por su capacidad para analizar la relación entre la comunicación y la politización.O presente artigo pretende apresentar duas matrizes de orientações conceituais distintas – a artística e a cultural – que subsidiam tratamentos diversos acerca do cinema no Campo da Comunicação. Inicialmente serão evidenciados os desdobramentos que cada matriz suscita no que tange à compreensão do processo comunicacional.
