Resumo: This paper aims to discuss how complex thinking can contribute to the interpretation of the paleontological heritage at Atalaia Beach, Salinópolis, Pará, Brazil. The location is one of the main tourist destinations in the state and has an expressive fossil record from the Brazilian marine Cenozoic, dating back 23 to 25 million years ago. Some questions guide the proposed reflections, such as: what is the problem of the simplification paradigm that involves heritage when it is at the threshold of the relationship between nature and culture? Does the way it was intentionally constructed, and later compartmentalized, following the disciplinary logic of modern sciences, generate limitations in the interpretation, appropriation, protection, and conservation of the assets that make up such heritage?

La ubicación es uno de los principales destinos turísticos del estado y tiene un expresivo registro fósil del Cenozoico marino brasileño, que data de 23 a 25 m.a. Algunas preguntas orientan las reflexiones propuestas, tales como: ¿cuál es el problema del paradigma de simplificación que implica en el patrimonio cuando se encuentra en el limite de la relación entre naturaleza y cultura? ¿La forma que fue construido y compartimentado, siguiendo la lógica disciplinar de las ciencias modernas, genera limitaciones en la interpretación, apropiación, protección y conservación de los bienes que integran este patrimonio?Cet article vise à discuter comment la pensée complexe peut contribuer à l'interprétation du patrimoine paléontologique de la Plage du Atalaia, Salinópolis, Pará, Brésil. La localité est une des principales destinations touristiques de l'état et possède un expressif registre fossile du Cénozoïque marine brésilien, datant entre 23 à 25 Ma.  Quelques questions guident les réflexions proposées, comme: Quelle est la problématique du paradigme de simplification qui englobe le patrimoine quand cela se rencontre à l'aube de la relation nature et culture? La manière comme celle-ci a été intentionnellement construite, et, puis, cloisonnée, suivant la logique disciplinaire des sciences modernes, limite-t-il l'interprétation, l'appropriation, la protection et la conservation des biens qui composent ce patrimoine?Este trabalho pretende discutir como o pensamento complexo pode contribuir para a interpretação do patrimônio paleontológico da Praia do Atalaia, Salinópolis, Pará, Brasil. A localidade é um dos principais destinos turísticos do Estado e conta com um expressivo registro fóssil do Cenozoico marinho brasileiro, datando entre 23 a 25 m.a, Algumas indagações norteiam as reflexões propostas, tais quais: qual a problemática do paradigma da simplificação que envolve o patrimônio quando este se encontra no limiar da relação natureza e cultura?
