 The study is an investigation of the tutor’s role in the face-to-face tutoring as an important element in the teaching and learning process. The tutor needs to be aware and committed to his/her role and responsibilities. A review of the literature on face-to-face tutoring in the context of distance education was carried out attempting to answer the following guiding question: What is the main role and responsibilities of the tutor in the teaching and learning process in face-to-face tutoring? The study suggested that some of the main responsibilities are to facilitate work in groups, to promote cooperation among students, and interactions among groups with the intent of encouraging students to deal with distance learning issues. It also suggested monitoring, academic advising, and supervision of the evaluation process. Keywords: Face-to-face tutoring. Distance education. Learning.
