Cardiovascular diseases are the chief cause of mortality in developed countries. Current research identifies the main risk factors of these diseases in two communities of the municipality of Juazeiro BA Brazil. Studies on the feeding and health habits and knowledge on metabolic disorders were undertaken. Results show that 86% of participating subjects were females; 42% were not literate or did not complete their primary school course; 72% did not exercise themselves physically; 26% were tobacco smokers and 16% had smoked for at least one year; 66% reported high salt, fat, fried food, sweets intake. Research suggests more effective control through health education programs since risk factors occur in the sample whilst 96% of the population reported lack of knowledge on metabolic disorders.
