Profile and concepts regarding the student with intellectual disabilities who attend the education for youth and adults (EYA)The inclusion of students with special educational needs in regular education has been one of the main points of discussion within the educational realm. Such discussions have the purpose of reflecting about student demands that present specificities and that have the right to access and permanence in school and to quality education. The aim of this study was to investigate the concepts of an EYA teacher about a student with intellectual disabilities, included in this mode of teaching. The survey was conducted in a municipal school in São Carlos- SP where interviews were conducted with such teachers, regarding subjects about inclusion and the profile of their students with intellectual disabilities, as well as their concepts about it. The results found that the teacher did not believe in the learning of his student, assigning him, besides the negative expectations about his learning, tasks that were not significant to him, such as the distribution of textbooks to his classmates, emphasizing that this was the only activity that the student could perform, since he was in school only to socialize. Thus, it becomes necessary to shift the paradigm regarding young students with intellectual disabilities, public policies and effective teaching practices, since such individuals are excluded.
