Resumo: This experiment was carried out at the UEPAE/São Carlos in order to compare the effects of two types of horse feeding, l.e., complete pelleted ration (RCP) versus traditional feeding (AT) on the growth performance. The two treatments were compared by using a paired desing. Fourteen growing females - 12 Arabian and 2 half-blood Arabian - were used in this experiment. Theses animals were divided in 7 pairs according to weight and age. The RCP was a pelleted mixture with 60% alfalfa hay, 34% corn meal, and 6% soybean meal. This ration was supplied to the animals in 3 equal meals at 8:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM daily. The animals under AT received the same ingredients in the same proportions. The concentrate was in the mash form and separated from the alfalfa hay. The AT feed was supplied also 3 times daily, according to the following: at 8:00 AM 1/2 of concentrate; at 1:00 PM 1/2 of concentrate plus 1/2 of alfalfa hay and at 5:00 PM the remainder 2/3 of the hay. The trial was conducted 63 days. Average daily gain, final body weight, feed conversion on a dry matter basis and total feed comsumption were: 0.786 kg; 273.71 kg; 7.34; 350.51 kg for RCP and 0.711 kg; 274.42 kg; 7.74; 332.10 kg for AT, respectively. It was concluded that both types of feeding did not differ in any of the variables considered in this study. As a consequence the pelleted ration could substitute for the traditional feeding without any problem.

Pesquisa Agropecuaria BrasileiraPesquisa Agropecuária BrasileiraManzano, AirtonCarvalho, Roberto Thomaz Losito de2014-04-15info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://seer.sct.embrapa.br/index.php/pab/article/view/16753Pesquisa Agropecuaria Brasileira; v.13, n.1, jan. 1978; 93-99Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira; v.13, n.1, jan. 1978; 93-991678-39210100-104xreponame:Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira (Online)instname:Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa)instacron:EMBRAPAporhttps://seer.sct.embrapa.br/index.php/pab/article/view/16753/11082info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2014-04-15T19:12:29Zoai:ojs.seer.sct.embrapa.br:article/16753Revistahttp://seer.sct.embrapa.br/index.php/pabPRIhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.phppab@sct.embrapa.br || sct.pab@embrapa.br1678-39210100-204Xopendoar:2014-04-15T19:12:29Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira (Online) - Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa)false
