Resumo: Environmental education and environmental management in undergraduate business administration courses: goals, challenges, and proposals This article deals with difficult issues concerning the implementation of environmental education (EE) in undergraduate business administration courses, according to the Brazilian legislation. First, the article discusses the evolution of EE related to the concepts of sustainable development and shows the main objectives, principles and methodological orientations adopted by the Brazilian legislation on EE. It then discusses the main legal issues related to college education. Finally, it presents some of the chief problems that make it difficult to have EE in undergraduate courses: the anthropocentrism that characterizes managerial theory and practice in general and business management in particular. Among other challenges discussed are the difficulty to implement a multi, inter and trans-disciplinary approach and the presence of a discipline called environmental management, which can¿t be confused with EE neither replace it. The article supports the idea that this discipline is necessary and must remain as long as the environmental issues are not adequately dealt with by the other disciplines.

Inicialmente, o artigo discute a evolução da EA associada aos conceitos de desenvolvimento sustentável e apresenta seus principais objetivos, princípios e orientações metodológicas adotados pela legislação brasileira sobre EA. Em seguida comenta as principais questões tratadas pela legislação com respeito aos cursos universitários. Por fim, apresenta alguns dos principais problemas que dificultam a EA nos cursos de administração, como o antropocentrismo que caracteriza a teoria e a prática administrativa de um modo geral e, em especial, da administração empresarial. Entre os outros desafios discutidos para implementar a EA nesses cursos estão as dificuldades para implementar uma abordagem multi, inter e transdisciplinar e a presença de uma disciplina denominada gestão ambiental, que não pode ser confundida com EA nem substituí-la.
