Resumo: Verbena litoralis, known as “gervãozinho-do-campo”, is used in folk medicine against diarrhea, gastrointestinal disorders and as antifebrile. Recently, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities have been proven. The objective of this work was to describe foliar anatomical characteristics of V. litoralis to aid in their identification. Adult and expanded leaves were collected from specimens found in the municipality of Taubaté-SP. Samples collected from 2nd and 3rd nodes were fixed. Free-hand sections, with the aid of a razor blade and Styrofoam, were obtained in the transverse and paradermic direction. The slides were prepared according to usual plant anatomy techniques. The leaves present, in frontal view of the adaxial face, sinuous cells with anisocytic stomata, while in the abaxial, anomocytic stomata. Glandular subsycetic trichomes and unicellular tectors were observed on both faces. The central vein is biconvex with a collateral vascular bundle, the dorsiventral mesophyll with a paliassic and lacunar parenchyma. The basal region of the limbus, in cross-sectional view, presents numerous pelicular glandular trichomes and subssésis, besides unicellular tectors, below the epidermis angular collenchyma occurs, the vascular system consists of a collateral beam and two to four accessories. Comparing with literature data, the species under study differs from its glandular trichome types.

Centro de Inovação em Biodiversidade e Saúde - Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz2019-12-20info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdftext/htmlhttp://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/78310.32712/2446-4775.2019.783Revista Fitos; v. 13 n. 4 (2019); 254-2602446-47751808-9569reponame:Revista Fitosinstname:Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz)instacron:FIOCRUZporhttp://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/783/632http://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/783/633Copyright (c) 2019 Revista Fitosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAoyama, Elisa MitsukoFurlan, Marcos RobertoIndriunas, Alexandre2020-06-29T20:50:09Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/783Revistahttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/PUBhttp://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/oairevistafitos@far.fiocruz.br || eugenio.telles@far.fiocruz.br2446-47752446-4775opendoar:2020-06-29T20:50:09Revista Fitos - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz)false
