Resumo: This paper analyzes the key role that repetition plays in the persuasive strategy developed by Socrates in the Gorgias in order to attract Callicles to the philosophical way of life. The paper first determines what that eros of the people is that is present in the soul of the orator, and why it constitutes an obstacle to the success of persuasion. After finding the origin of it in repeated mimêsis of the people, the paper then postulates that Socrates offers philosophical mimêsis as an antidote for, and an instrument to reorient, the eros of Callicles.
