SOURCE TAGGING IN BRAZIL: TENDENCIES AND POSSIBLE IMPACTS

Resumo: The stabilization of Brazilian economy changed the focus of the retail management process. At the time that the inflation was very high it was possible to overcame operational losses investing money in financial market. Since 1994, the conditions faced by retail companies are being deeply modified. Facing stable prices, manufacturers and retailers are being forced to enhance their operations. One of the suggestions is diminishing operational retail losses as shop lift carried out by employees and customers. The source tagging process has been pointed out as one of the more adequate solutions for the problem. The purpose of this exploratory work is to identify the real tendency to introduce this new technology in Brazilian market as well as to settle its main consequences. The work concludes that there is a clear disposition of the companies to incorporate the source tagging process. Products that are source tagged receive the benefits of better exposition stimulating the sales increase. The problem is that there is a possibility of thesupply chain become overstocked.

The problem is that there is a possibility of thesupply chain become overstocked.O programa de estabilização monetária introduzido em 1994 alterou significativamente a gestão dos negócios das empresas varejistas que atuam no mercado nacional. Antes de 1994 os eventuais prejuízos operacionais das empresas comerciais podiam ser superados com as aplicações no mercado financeiro. A queda da inflação suprimiu importante fonte de receita dessas empresas, que, para se manterem, foram forçadas a melhorar suas operações. Nessa direção uma das políticas que vêm sendo perseguidas é a da redução das perdas no processo de comercialização. A etiquetagem dos produtos na origem é uma das mais importantes medidas apontadas para redução dos prejuízos operacionais. O objetivo deste artigo é identificar a disposição das empresas na adoção dessa nova tecnologia e, secundariamente, apontar suas possíveis conseqüências. Baseado em um levantamento de campo, concluiuse que há significativo interesse na introdução da etiquetagem na origem, bem como que as empresas reconhecem nesse procedimento importante instrumento para a redução das perdas nas cadeias de suprimentos.
