Mechanisms of exclusion in two companies involved in a restructuring process

Resumo: The present paper examines the exclusion mechanisms observed in a study on the change processes that occurred in two different companies: the first, a manufacturing plant located in the interior of the state of São Paulo with a branch in Recife (PE) and linked to an Anglo-Dutch group. The second, a company from the domestic financial sector, with mixed economic activities, of which the Brazilian State is a majority shareholder. In the first case, the emphasis falls on the ways of exclusion of female labor observed in the production sector of the manufacturing plant during the selection process, on the occasion of pregnancy or sick leaves, and at resuming work, when female workers are classified as allocated. In the second case, we approach the ways of exclusion found in the selection process of the so-called exceeding workers during the process of changes that occurred from 1995 to 2000. In both cases, regardless of the differences between the two companies, the ways of exclusion show similarities and are analyzed focusing on the symbolic dimension of their completion. Keywords: Productive restructuring; exclusion mechanisms; symbolic dimension; change processes.O presente trabalho aborda os mecanismos de exclusão constatados no estudo dos processos de mudança ocorridos em duas empresas: uma fábrica localizada no interior do estado de São Paulo, com filial em Recife (PE), ligada a um grupo anglo-holandês; e uma empresa do setor financeiro nacional, uma sociedade de economia mista com participação acionária majoritária da União. No primeiro caso, a ênfase recai sobre as formas de exclusão do trabalho feminino praticadas na área produtiva da referida fábrica: no processo seletivo, nas ocasiões de afastamento e retorno ao trabalho, por motivos de gravidez ou doença, quando as operárias são postas na categoria de alocadas. No segundo caso, aborda as formas de exclusão no processo de escolha dos denominados excedentes durante o processo de mudanças ocorrido no período 1995-2000. Em ambos os casos, independentemente das diferenças entre as empresas, as formas de exclusão apresentam semelhanças e são analisadas com ênfase na dimensão simbólica de sua efetivação.
