This paper has as its main theme the study of the environmental damage. This kind of damage can be comprehended as the injuries suffered by the environment as a hole, to its balance, or by its tangible components. Within the environmental damage, this paper will focus especially on the diffuse extra patrimonial environmental damage, which is a damage of immaterial nature suffered by an undetermined number of people. This kind of damage faced some resistance in the past. However, nowadays, both doctrine and jurisprudence have a greater acceptance for this kind of damage. It has been an increase in the number of cases that recognize this kind of damage, especially among the justices of the Superior Tribunal de Justiça. This study was made through literature review on the topic, as well as through the analysis of cases that deal with the topic. At the end, it is concluded that this type of damage should be taken into consideration upon the occurrence of harmful events to the environment, due to the complexity of the environmental damage, as well as the principle of full compensation
