O bullying, caracterizando-se como um comportamento agressivo, sistemático, repetitivo e prolongado no tempo e num desequilíbrio de poder, afeta com grande intensidade crianças e jovens, prejudicando o seu desenvolvimento saudável, com efeitos a curto e a longo prazo. A promoção da empatia tem sido apontada em vários estudos como elemento de inibição ou redução da agressividade. O presente estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar a relação entre empatia e bullying em alunos do 4.º e do 6.º ano, assim como os seus fatores. Com as nove questões formuladas, pretende-se averiguar a distribuição dos alunos pelos comportamentos de empatia e vitimização recebida na escola, relacionando esses comportamentos com as variáveis consideradas. Pretende-se investigar as diferenças entre género e anos de escolaridade nos comportamentos de empatia e bullying. A amostra foi constituída por 238 alunos do 4.º e 6.º anos de dois agrupamentos de escolas da área urbana de Lisboa. Na avaliação dos comportamentos de empatia, foi utilizada uma adaptação de “A Questionnaire to Assess Affective and Cognitive Empathy in Children” (Zoll & Enz, 2010) e na análise da dimensão de vitimização no bullying utilizou-se a adaptação portuguesa de “Peer Victimation Scale” (Veiga, 2007b). Na análise dos resultados, foi possível verificar correlações entre a dimensão cognitiva da empatia e alguns itens da escala de vitimização, sendo os alunos com valores mais elevados de empatia na dimensão cognitiva, os que apresentaram maior número de ocorrências de vitimização recebidas na escola. Foram detetadas diferenças de género nos comportamentos de empatia e diferenças de género e ano de escolaridade na vitimização recebida na escola. Estes resultados, na sua generalidade, conjugam-se com outros estudos realizados sobre esta temática. Esta investigação remete para a necessidade de novos estudos sobre a temática, analisando as dimensões do bullying, controlando variáveis, sugere a importância da realização de um estudo longitudinal com outros anos de escolaridade e a avaliação de um programa de intervenção visando o desenvolvimento da empatia.The continued and increased incidents of bullying in schools are concern to society in general. The present study aims at analyze the relationship between empathy and bullying students of 4 and 6 years of schooling, as well as their factors. With the nine issues raised is intended to determine the distribution of students by empathy and victimization behaviors received in school, relating these behaviors to the variables considered. This work intends to investigate the differences between gender and years of schooling in empathy and bullying behaviors. The sample comprised 238 students of 4 and 6 years of schooling for two groups of schools in urban area of Lisbon. In assessing the behavior of empathy was used an adaptation of “A Questionnaire to Assess Affective and Cognitive Empathy in Children” (Zoll & Enz, 2010) and the analysis of the extent of bullying victimization it was used the portuguese adaptation of the “Peer Victimation Scale” (Veiga, 2007b). In analyzing the results, we observed correlations between the cognitive dimension of empathy and some items of the scale of victimization, and that the students with higher levels of empathy in cognitive were those with the highest number of occurrences of victimization from grade school. Were detected gender differences in empathy and behaviors and gender differences in victimization grade received in school. These results, in general, are combined with other studies on this topic.
