Teaching through research with an STS/STSE and sustainability orientation in inservice training of Natural Sciences teachers

Resumo: The purpose of this research was to examine a continuous training undergone by Natural Science teachers, of the State Network of Basic Education in the Espírito Santo state, Brazil, held in 2011, following the investigative teaching approach and focusing on Science-Technology-Society-Environment (STS/STSE). This training addressed experimental investigative practices and the use of non-formal education spaces, culminating in the publication of a book that collected pedagogical proposals of secondary school teachers. Our analysis was based on the investigative learning, as proposed by Gil & Castro, Moeed and Carvalho; and the STS/STSE focus proposed by Aikenhead, Santos & Auler, and Cachapuz et al. Many of the teachers who attended the training were unfamiliar with the STSE perspective. It was concluded that this continuous training did indeed follow an investigative learning perspective with an STS/STSE approach, perhaps proving to be a way to promote regional sustainability and improve the quality of science education in secondary schools in the Espírito Santo state, Brazil.

Esta formación se dirigió a las prácticas experimentales de investigación y uso de los espacios de educación no formal, que culminó en la publicación del libro que reunió a algunas propuestas pedagógicas, realizadas por los maestros de la educación secundaria. Nuestro análisis se basa en la enseñanza de las hipótesis para la investigación, según lo propuesto por Gil & Castro, Moeed y Carvalho; y el enfoque CTS/CTSA propuesto por Aikenhead, Santos & Auler, y Cachapuz, Gil-Perez, Carvalho, Praia & Vilches. Gran parte de los maestros que asistieron a la formación no conocía el punto de vista CTS/CTSA. Se concluyó que la formación continua se llevó a cabo en la perspectiva de aprendizaje de investigación con enfoque CTS/CTSA, y tal vez un camino para la sostenibilidad regional y la mejora de la calidad de la educación científica en las escuelas secundarias del estado de Espirito Santo, Brasil.O objetivo dessa investigação foi o de analisar a formação continuada de professores de Ciências da Natureza da Rede Estadual de Educação Básica no Estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil, realizada em 2011, à luz do ensino investigativo e do enfoque Ciência-Tecnologia-Sociedade-Ambiente (CTS/CTSA). Esta formação abordou práticas experimentais investigativas e uso de espaços de educação não formal, culminando na publicação do livro que reuniu algumas propostas pedagógicas elaboradas pelos professores do ensino secundário. Nossa análise foi baseada nos pressupostos do ensino por investigação, conforme proposto por Gil & Castro, Moeed e Carvalho; e o enfoque CTS/CTSA proposto por Aikenhead, Santos & Auler, e Cachapuz, Gil-Perez, Carvalho, Praia & Vilches. Boa parte dos professores que participou da formação não conhecia a perspectiva CTS/CTSA.
