Resumo: | Considering the recent labour market dynamics, this article explores the main patterns of women’s employment, including working time flexibility and the high incidence of temporary work in Portugal. It also stresses the main changes in working and employment conditions in the new service sectors (ranging from the high-intensive knowledge ICT to the call centres and the new retail sector), thereby discussing the implications for women in terms of the organisation of their family life. The main argument is that flexibleworking time schedules not only have ambiguous (and even contradictory) effects on gender relations; they also originate difficulties inwork-family life balance and reinforce social inequalities among women. |

Refleja también los cambios ocurridos en las condiciones de trabajo, en las relaciones de empleo y en la organización de la vida familiar de las mujeres que prestan actividad en algunos de los nuevos sectores de los servicios en Portugal (desde el segmento de las nuevas tecnologías de información y comunicación, incluyendo el sector de los call centres, hasta el nuevo comercio de menudeo que integra la gran distribución). El presente estudio permite constatar que las alteraciones verificadas en la relación de empleo y en los tiempos de trabajo no sólo producen efectos complejos (y hasta contradictorios) en las relaciones de género; dificultan también la articulación con la vida familiar y refuerzan las desigualdades en el seno de la fuerza de trabajo femenina.En prenant pour toile de fond les dynamiques récentes introduites dans le monde du travail, cet article rend compte de l’expression de l’emploi féminin, de la précarité contractuelle et de la flexibilité du temps de travail au Portugal. Il réfléchit également aux changements survenus dans les conditions de travail, dans les relations de travail et dans l’organisation de la vie familiale des femmes qui travaillent dans certains des nouveaux secteurs des services au Portugal (depuis le segment des nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la communication, comme les centres d’appel, jusqu’au nouveau commerce de la grande distribution). L’étude présentée permet de constater que les changements intervenus dans la relation de travail et dans les temps de travail ne produisent pas seulement des effets complexes (voire contradictoires) sur les relations de genre ; ils rendent aussi plus difficile la conciliation avec la vie familiale et ils creusent les inégalités au sein de la force de travail féminine.Tendo como tela de fundo as recentes dinâmicas na esfera laboral, o artigo procura dar conta da expressão do emprego feminino, da precariedade contratual e da flexibilidade de tempo de trabalho em Portugal. Reflete ainda sobre as mudanças ocorridas nas condições de trabalho, nas relações de emprego e na organização da vida familiar das mulheres que prestam atividade em alguns dos “novos” setores dos serviços em Portugal (desde o segmento das novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação, incluindo o ramo dos call centres, até ao “novo” comércio de retalho que integra a grande distribuição).
