INDICATORS IN SURGICAL CARE AT A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL: WHAT DO MANAGERS THINK?

Introduction: Indicators are essential tools in several areas, including health and the management of care services. The use of indicators in the surgical center is essential, as it is considered an extremely complex sector that encompasses the work of multidisciplinary teams that need to be in tune in relation to the countless processes and sub-processes that are required in the production of surgeries. Objective: To understand managers' perceptions regarding the use of indicators in surgical care in a university hospital. Methods: Descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, carried out with 05 managers of the surgical center of a university hospital. The data collected in the period of August and September 2023, through individual semi-structured interviews were analyzed and subjected to Minayo's thematic analysis. Results: Three categories emerged from the results: managers' perception of the use of indicators to evaluate the surgical process; the fragility of continuing education in the use of indicators and the suspension of surgeries as an indicator of the quality of surgical care. Conclusion: The analysis demonstrates the importance of indicator systems in the surgical center and their direct relationship with patient care, the need for training in the use of indicators and the lack of their implementation related to the suspension of surgeries, caused by the lack of material resource management.
