Resumo: Among the multiple meanings attributed to prostitution, nowadays we may understand it as a consolidated as work, even if of informal nature. As shown by history, this activity persists in the face of adversity, prejudice, and stigma. This study aims to contribute to the discussions about prostitution as a profession among women. By means of an exploratory qualitative research, it is expected to capture the reality, concepts, and factors surrounding the lives of these professionals – whose social position implies numerous controversies of acceptability. It also intends to investigate the existence or not of precariousness in the work environment, thus grasping an epistemological knowledge of the phenomenon.

La historia demuestra que esta actividad ha persistido ante la adversidad, los prejuicios y el estigma. Este estudio tiene como objetivo contribuir a las discusiones sobre la prostitución como profesión entre las mujeres. Se caracteriza por ser una investigación cualitativa, de carácter exploratorio. Con este estudio se espera captar larealidad, los conceptos y los factores que envuelven la vida de estos profesionales cuya inmersión en la sociedad está permeada por severas polémicas de aceptabilidad; además de aprehender la existencia o no de precariedad en el ambientelaboral, buscando captar un conocimiento epistemológico del fenómeno.No mundo atual, dentre tantas acepções, pode-se admitir que a prostituição está consolidada como trabalho, mesmo de cunho informal. A história mostra que essa atividade persiste diante das adversidades enfrentadas, do preconceito e dos estigmas. O presente estudo objetiva contribuir para as discussões acerca da prostituição como profissão entre as mulheres. Caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa básica de cunho exploratório. Com este estudo, espera-se capturar a realidade, os conceitos e os fatores que rodeiam a vida destas profissionais, cuja imersão na sociedade é perpassada por severas polêmicas de aceitabilidade.
