ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT IN THE UNDER-13 CATEGORY AT A SOCCER CLUB IN THE CITY OF GOIÂNIA (GO): A CASE STUDY

Resumo: The aim of the study was to investigate the context of football player development through a qualitative and exploratory case study involving an under-13 team from a club in Goiânia, GO. Semi-structured interviews with two coaches and field diaries to observe three training sessions were used for data collection. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The research revealed four thematic categories: a) emphasis on technical improvement through analytical exercises followed by small-sided games; b) organization and planning of training sessions based on competition; c) the importance of the game as a learning tool; and d) the lack of a formal curriculum. It was observed that the emphasis on technical performance overshadows tactical performance, indicating a gap between the theoretical knowledge produced on youth football training and development and its practical application.

Para la recolección de datos, se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con dos entrenadores y diarios de campo para observar tres sesiones de entrenamiento. Los datos se analizaron mediante análisis temático. La investigación reveló cuatro categorías temáticas: a) énfasis en la mejora técnica a través de ejercicios analíticos seguidos de juegos reducidos; b) organización y planificación de las sesiones de entrenamiento basadas en la competencia; c) la importancia del juego como herramienta de aprendizaje y d) la falta de un currículo formal. Se observó que la idea de rendimiento técnico prevalece sobre el rendimiento táctico, lo que indica que aún existe una brecha entre lo que se ha producido en términos de procesos de formación y entrenamiento en el fútbol y su aplicación en la práctica.O objetivo do estudo foi investigar o contexto da formação de atletas de futebol a partir de um estudo de caso qualitativo e exploratório com uma equipe sub-13 de um clube em Goiânia, GO. Para coleta de dados foram utilizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com dois treinadores e diários de campo para observar três sessões de treinos. Os dados foram analisados a partir da análise temática. A pesquisa revelou quatro categorias temáticas: a) ênfase na aprimoração técnica por meio de exercícios analíticos, seguidos de pequenos jogos; b) a organização e o planejamento dos treinos, baseados na competição; c) a importância do jogo como ferramenta de aprendizagem e d) a falta de um currículo formal.
