THEORIES OF PERSONALITY: SURVEY OF CIRCULATION MANUALS IN BRAZIL AND THE PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH

Abstract   Human personality is one of the main themes of psychological trends, and each one presents different ways of explaining and understanding the phenomenon. At least three understandings are highlighted: Psychoanalytic, Experimental-Positivist-Behaviorist and Humanist-Existential-Phenomenological. In this study we aim to carry out a survey of the manuals on Personality Theories in national circulation and translated into Portuguese, as well as to analyze their structure in terms of year of publication, publisher, theories and theorists considered, with a view to understanding their circulation in Brazil, especially the Person-Centered Approach (ACP), developed by Carl Rogers. The research method is the documentary and allowed us to identify and explore nine manuals of Personality Theories in national circulation, in which the perspectives of the three forces in Psychology are contemplated. Rogers and his approach was considered in all consulted manuals. In two of them, the theorist is an author, standing out as essential sources for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the author's Personality theory.
