INNOVATION INFLUENCES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF CAPITAL GOODS SECTOR: AN ANALYSIS IN SÃO PAULO STATE INDUSTRY

Resumo: This paper has as its purpose to analyze the influence factors related to the technological occurrence in Capital Goods sector from São Paulo state industry, using a quantitative approach in a research with descriptive and correlational characteristics, where were used data from  Pesquisa de Atividade Econômica Paulista (PAEP) provided by Fundação Sistema de Análise de Dados (SEADE). The statistical method used was the logistic regression with marginal effects analysis, which shows how an incremental variation in the dependent variables affects the occurrence probability of product or process technological innovation. The results show that when it comes to product and process technological  innovation the relevant factors of influence are: export orientation, the average salary, the availability of a R&D specific department or laboratory and the information sources for innovative activities. The enterprise age and the origin of the bigger part of the enterprise incomings (goods or services) have influence just in product technological innovation, while the fact of the enterprise belongs to a entrepreneurial group, the percent of human resources invested in R&D and the governmental support have influence only in the process technological innovation occurrence.

The enterprise age and the origin of the bigger part of the enterprise incomings (goods or services) have influence just in product technological innovation, while the fact of the enterprise belongs to a entrepreneurial group, the percent of human resources invested in R&D and the governmental support have influence only in the process technological innovation occurrence.La propuesta de este trabajo es analizar los factores que afectan la ocurrencia de la innovación tecnológica en las industrias del sector de Bienes de Capital del Estado de Sao Paulo, realizando una investigación de abordaje cuantitativo y de carácter descriptivo y explicativo, utilizándose para este fin, datos provenientes de Investigación de Actividad Económica del Estado de Sao Paulo (PAEP), realizada por la fundación Sistema Provincial de Análisis de Dados (SEADE). La técnica estadística empleada fue la regresión logística con cálculo y análisis de efectos marginales, que muestran como un incremento de cada una de las variables dependientes contribuye para el aumento o disminución de la probabilidad de innovación tecnológica en productos y en procesos. Los resultados encontrados muestran que orientación exportadora, el sueldo medio, la presencia de laboratorio o departamento específico de pesquisa y desarrollo (P&D) y las fuentes de información para actividades innovadoras influencian tanto la ocurrencia de innovación tecnológica en productos como la innovación tecnológica en procesos. En cambio, la edad de la empresa y el origen de mayor parte de su facturación (bienes o servicios) influencian sólo la ocurrencia de innovación tecnológica en productos. Además, el hecho de que la empresa pertenezca a un grupo empresarial, el percentual de recursos humanos destinados en P&D y el apoyo gubernamental en la forma de financimientos y subsidios influencian sólo la ocurrencia de innovación tecnológica en procesos.A proposta deste trabalho é analisar os fatores que afetam a ocorrência da inovação tecnológica nas indústrias do setor de Bens de Capital do Estado de São Paulo, realizando uma pesquisa de abordagem quantitativa e de caráter descritivo e explicativo, utilizando-se para este fim, dados provenientes da Pesquisa de Atividade Econômica Paulista (PAEP), realizada pela fundação Sistema Estadual de Análise de Dados (SEADE). A técnica estatística empregada foi a regressão logística com cálculo e análise de efeitos marginais, que mostram como um incremento em cada uma das variáveis dependentes contribui para o aumento ou diminuição da probabilidade de inovação tecnológica em produtos e em processos. Os resultados encontrados mostram que orientação exportadora, o salário médio, a presença de laboratório ou departamento específico de pesquisa e desenvolvimento (P&D) e as fontes de informação para atividades inovativas influenciam tanto a ocorrência de inovação tecnológica em produtos como a inovação tecnológica em processos. Já a idade da empresa e a origem da maior parte do seu faturamento (bens ou serviços) influenciam apenas a ocorrência de inovação tecnológica em produtos.
