Resumo: | It’s an investigation developed with 40 participants – 01 male and 39 female – in an universitary workshop about “contemporary nursing care”. The goal of the study was to answer the question: “what meanings do nurses give to the terms care and caring”. The participants, nurses from the clinical setting and faculty members, defined what they understood for care and caring and the analysis of the responses made the resercher conclude that besides other questions, the participants, in general, meant to care and to assist as synonims. In result of that, the resercher conducted an analysis of the terms, raising some questions and making some comments for reflection. |

In result of that, the resercher conducted an analysis of the terms, raising some questions and making some comments for reflection.Se trata de una investigación realizada con 40 participantes, siendo 1 del sexo masculino y 39 del sexo feminino provenientes de varias instituciones hospitalares, que participaron de un curso de extensión universitaria sobre “El cuidado en la enfermería contemporánea”. El objectivo del estudio fue responder a la pregunta: que significados son atribuidos por las enfermeras a los términos “cuidar” y “cuidado. Las participantes, enfermeras de la área asistencial y la enseñanza definieron lo que entendian por cuidado, y el analisis de las respuestas llevó a la investigadora a concluir entre otras apreciaciones, que para las participantes, en general, cuidar y asistir son sinónimos. Como resultado de eso, la investigadora realizó un análisis de los términos, proponiendo, para reflexion, algunas preguntas y comentarios.Trata de uma investigação realizada com 40 participantes, sendo um (1) do sexo masculino e 39 do sexo feminino, de diversas instituições hospitalares, reunidas em um curso de extensão universitária sobre “O cuidado na enfermagem contemporânea”. O objetivo do estudo foi de responder à questão: “que significados são atribuídos pelas enfermeiras aos termos “cuidar” e “cuidado”. As participantes, enfermeiras da área assistencial e da docência, definiram o que entendiam por cuidar e cuidado e a análise das respostas levou a pesquisadora a concluir que entre outras questões, as participantes, em geral, significaram cuidar e assistir como sinônimos.
