Resumo: This article presents a discussion on the actions developed, within the scope of the Programa de Leitorado - one of Brazil's external linguistic policies, by the subjects who teach Portuguese and national culture in this context. This is based on data collected via a questionnaire, by Google Forms, to subjects who worked or work in this policy, and also through documentary research, which was carried out at the Palácio do Itamaraty and which gave rise to approximately 750 pages analyzed. The objective is to present and discuss the actions that, in this linguistic policy, characterize the work of working professionals, both in terms of teaching and extracurricular activities. In general, the data show that the policy in question fulfills, in many ways, its function of internationalizing the country's language and culture. However, they also clarify that some weaknesses characterize the daily work of the subjects who participated in the research, which also clarified the existence of demands related to the management of the linguistic policy in question. Therefore, we concluded with some propositions related to reformulations in the management of the Programa de Leitorado.
