No perpetuation as a characteristic of the Brazilian Lectureship Program

As part of the globalizing process, and as a reflection of the attempt to sustain and (re)affirm the supremacy of the Modern State, some countries have implemented policies related to the international promotion of their official languages ​​(OLIVEIRA, 2010; 2013). Given this, this article problematizes the Brazilian government's performance concerning the Lectureship Program - a linguistic policy to promote Brazilian Portuguese in foreign universities. From the generated data - information available on the Rede Brasil Cultural website, CAPES official documents, and testimonials from active and former lecturers, the inconstancy that characterizes the operation of this program as a governmental policy is discussed to understand how these factors affect the selection, performance and remuneration of the lecturers. Besides, the study reveals that, in terms of management and worldwide reach, lectureships have been out of the focus of the government agenda in recent years. In the meantime, the conclusions talk about the importance of reconsidering the modus operandi of the Lectureship Program so that it can be expanded, and the possibilities of its sporadic freezing or permanent suspension are minimized.
