Resumo: This article aims to discuss the semiological principles in the line of thought of Ferdinand de Saussure and Émile Benveniste, to understand how these principles are founded, as well as are interrelated in the reflection of each of these linguists. The starting point of the text is to think about how, from the analysis of such principles, one can observe the construction of a working method that characterizes Saussurian and Benvenistian linguistics. In addition, the reflection presented here helps us understand how these linguists explained the phenomenon of language, considering the different points of view used by each of them during their analysis.

O ponto de chegada do texto é pensar em como, a partir da análise de tais princípios, pode-se observar a construção de um método de trabalho que caracteriza a linguística saussuriana e a linguística benvenistiana.
